Dr. Bogdan Dragnea

Bogdan Dragnea is a Provost Professor of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington, specializing in the physics and chemistry of mesoscale materials. He earned his Diploma in Physics from the University of Bucharest in 1992 and completed his Ph.D. at Université de Paris-Sud, Orsay, France, focusing on laser interactions with semiconductor surfaces and nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy of model catalyst surfaces. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Dragnea conducted postdoctoral research at JILA in Boulder, Colorado, where he explored near-field optical microscopy approaches to various physical chemistry problems. Since joining Indiana University in 2001, Dr. Dragnea has led a research group dedicated to understanding collective phenomena such as thermoplasmonics, room-temperature super-radiance, and virus mechanics and self-assembly. His lab develops optical characterization methods and experimental models to investigate these areas, actively contributing to the fields of nanophotonics, physical virology, and biophysics.

Dr. Sylvie Roussel

Sylvie Roussel holds an MS in Agricultural Engineering and an MS in control and robotics as well as a PhD in Machine Learning (98) from SupAgro Montpellier in France. She has then been a Research Associate at Iowa State University (IA, USA) for Machine Learning applied to NIR spectroscopy. Since 2003, she is the founder and CEO of Ondalys company, a consulting and training company in chemometrics / Machine Learning for instrumental data (spectroscopy, imagining, chromatography…) for many industrial sectors such as pharma/biotech, chemistry and agrifood. From 2009 to 2023, Dr. Roussel was also CEO of INDATECH company: in 2009, together with Dr. Chauchard, she founded INDATECH innovative company, an equipment manufacturing company dedicated to spectroscopic sensors for PAT (Process Analytical Technology). In 2017, INDATECH became part of the French industrial group Chauvin-Arnoux. As a scientist, she is currently part of the boards of the NIR French group (HélioSPIR) and the Vibrational Spectroscopy French Group (GFSV), as well as a European Expert for Machine Learning and Optics for EU collaborative projects.

Pr. Renato Zenobi

Renato Zenobi is Professor for Analytical Chemistry at ETH Zurich. He is best known for using modern mass spectrometry methods to solve problems in the life sciences, for his contributions to understanding ion formation mechanisms in laser mass spectrometry, and for the invention of tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, a method that allows one to gain detailed molecular information on the nanometer scale. Together with clinicians at the University Hospital Zurich, he is developing a mass spectrometric “chemical nose” that could revolutionize medical diagnosis. He is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, most recently a 2017 ERC Advanced Grant from the EU, the 2019 “Golden Owl” from ETH for excellence in teaching, and the 2023 ACS Award in Spectrochemical Analysis. Renato also enjoys sports (skiing, ski mountaineering, running, unicycling), and is a semi-professional violinist, performing regularly in concerts. He plays orchestral and chamber music as well as gipsy jazz.
